On completion of this advanced course, participants are expected to be able to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the neurophysiology of human locomotion<\/strong> across different locomotor modalities (e.g. forward and backward walking, turning, stair negotiation, ramp ascent and descent, and walking on uneven surfaces), and articulate how changes at the impairment level influence movement patterns and functional performance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Identify and analyse the specific components and task requirements of different locomotor modalities<\/strong>, and use this knowledge to guide assessment and treatment planning for adults with neurological conditions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Apply advanced clinical reasoning<\/strong> to determine how an intervention focused on one locomotor modality can influence performance in other locomotor tasks, based on movement analysis, theoretical knowledge, and the interaction between sensory, motor, and cognitive systems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Initiate and implement problem-solving treatment strategies<\/strong>, including the use of specific handling skills, environmental adaptations, and verbal cues, and critically evaluate their effectiveness through self-reflection and clinical observation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Facilitate improvements at the activity level<\/strong>, enabling patients to manage locomotion more effectively in real-life environments, such as stairs, ramps, changes of direction, and complex walking situations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Evaluate patient response to intervention<\/strong> using appropriate outcome measures, identify patient potential, and support the achievement of optimal functional mobility.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
